Moliets (proper name Moliets-et-Maâ) is a town and beach resort forming part of the extensive beach section of the Atlantic Coast of south-west France known as the Cote d'Argent. It is situated on a quiet section of the coast with the resorts of Soorts-Hossegor to the south and Mimizan to the north.

Explore Moliets village and beaches

The village of Moliets is a few kilometres from the coast and you will find a traditional village centre based around its church.

This is quite a pleasant place for a stroll, but it is the town's role as a seaside resort for which it is better known, especially on the long sandy Atlantic beach at Moliets Plage that is also well known for its surfing opportunities.

The beach here is very extensive and offers all sorts of beach related activities from volleyball to sea fishing - and of course sunbathing and relaxing!

Moliets is also one of the places in this part of France where 'Vin de sable' is produced - wine produced from vineyards grown in the sand.

Walking, exploring and activities at Moliets

Moliets has a highly reputed 18 hole golf course that was designed by a well known American golf course designer called Robert Trent Jones and a golfing friend tells me it is certainly one of his favourite courses in France. See Moliets Golf for details of the course and prices.

Numerous other activities are available in Moliets or the region close by, such as kite flying and treetop adventures, petanque and surfing lessons.

The immense forests of the Landes that surround Moliets are ideal for walking and cycling with the Etang de Moliets and the Etang de Laprade (two inland lakes) being among the most popular with hikers and anglers (for fishing you need a licence from the tourist office).

The Natural Reserve of the Courant de Huchet is also very scenic - the 'courant' is the name given to the watercourse that connects the Etang de Léon with the ocean.

Attractions near Moliets-et-Maa

If you find Moliets quiet or fancy a change or day-trip, see more of the popular Atlantic resorts and beaches. We recommend a day trip to explore the 19th century glamour of Biarritz, about 60 kilometres drive to the south but well worth the journey.
