Saint-Cezaire-sur-Siagne is situated to the south-west of Grasse and to the east of the villages of the Pays de Fayence region (eg Mons), at the extreme west of the Alpes-Maritimes department of Provence.

More substantial that many of the small villages in the region, the first thing that strikes you as you approach St-Cezaire-sur-Siagne is its imposing position, along the top of a rocky ledge (or rather, a rocky clifftop...) from where it has commanding views across the valley of the River Siagne far below.

Explore Saint-Cezaire-sur-Siagne

The village centres around an open square with a church, a fountain, and several cafes (the annual village get-together was taking place the day I visited so it was very busy and boisterous, I think it will usually be a bit calmer!)

quiet street

Not far behind the 18th century church and in the cemetery you can see a pretty chapel with a bell in the front facade - the Chapelle Romane Notre Dame de Sardaigne - that dates from the 12th century and contains a Roman sarcophagus.

Other highlights in Saint-Cezaire include some artefacts from the 19th century, such as a lavoir and some interesting stone-capped wells.

The heart of the old town of Saint-Cezaire-sur-Siagne is along the promontory, with some picturesque streets of ancient houses leading to a small open area which acts as a viewpoint on the valley below and miles of open countryside.

Note: this view across the Siagne valley from Place du 8 Mai 1945 is a highlight of your visit and not to be missed! Follow the 'viewpoint' signs

Grottes de Saint-Cezaire

Close to the village there are some caves - the Grottes de Saint Cézaire - that are open to the public. These are really very attractive with numerous rock formations to be seen and careful lighting. The caves are probably the main reason why visitors come here, rather than the village itelf...

At the same site as the caves there is also a cafe and a forest area to explore. See their website for details and lots of photos of what to expect: Grottes de St Cezaire

Dolmens

There is also a group of dolmens at Saint-Cezaire-sur-Siagne. While it is true that these are not the most impressive dolmens to be seen in France, there are several of them and also the remains of an ancient tomb, providing an interesting reminder that this area has been inhabited since prehistoric times.
