France This Way review: It is interesting to watch the fishing fleet come in each evening and the view across the bay to Ile Tudy is pleasant but Loctudy is not really a holiday destination.
Loctudy is first and foremost a fishing town and its port is the fifth most important fishing port in France and is particularly famous for its langoustines, known as the "demoiselles de Loctudy".
It is quite a sight to see the flotilla of nearly 100 boats set out each morning to fish. The langoustines are kept in salt water and brought to the quay for sale in the evening.
If you are here over a meal time be sure to try the delicious fresh langoustines at one of the restaurants in the town.
The pleasure port has nearly 700 places for boats to dock and has facilities also for wind-surfing, catamarins and dinghys. It is possible to hire equipment here too including kayaks.
You can also take boat trips to Pont l'Abbaye, the Iles Glenan or alternatively take a fishing trip.
There is also a small ferry boat which travels back and forth across to Ile Tudy and costs just a couple of euros.
At the end of the Quai de la Cooperative is a cafe where you can sit and enjoy views over the water to Ile Tudy whilst you have a drink or a snack. Notice the lighthouse which is painted with 64 black and white squares.
There are some pleasant sandy beaches along the coast here as well as some nice rocky coastline.
The church in Loctudy dates back to the 11th century and is one of the best preserved in Brittany.

The Manoir de Kerazan is just a few kilometers out of town on the road to Pont l'Abbé. The manoir was built in the 16 to 18th centuries and its interior is richly decorated. The decorations include a number of frescoes by various artists including Auguste Goy and Maurice Denis.
There is also a collection of Quimper pottery, and many works by the French painter Alfred Beau. The Manoir is surrounded by a five hectare park with a large vegetable garden, a pond and a moat.
Pont l'Abbé is a very pleasant port town to the north of Loctudy and well worth a visit.
Also nearby are the lovely gardens of the Parc Botanique de Cornouaille between Pont l'Abbé and Combrit. The park covers four and a half hectares and includes 240 varieties of japanese maples, lots of hydrangeas, rhododendrons and magnolias and a beautiful large pond with lots of water lilies.
It also has a mineral museum and a picnic area. The gardens are open most of the year.
To the east is the lovely port village of Sainte-Marine which sits on the opposite side of the Odet estuary to Benodet, a popular resort in the region.
