Photo of Lynx

Lynx (Eurasian Lynx) are found in France only in the Vosges and Pyrenees regions.

The Lynx is a wild cat, with yellow fur and darker-black markings. The ears are very distinctive, with their extended tufts of hair. Their tails are short.

The normal prey of a lynx is small and medium sized mammals such as hares, foxes and rodents athough they have been known to kill a roe deer.

The preferred habitat of the lynx is heavily forested areas.

The lynx was completely exterminated in France, and across much of Europe, by 1900 but has now been successfully reintroduced in certain areas.

They are now a protected species.
