Photo Gallery Book a visitVillecroze is a village in the Var department of Provence, about 20 kilometres south of the Lac de Sainte-Croix.
Explore Villecroze
In the centre of Villecroze there is a large open square, surrounded by pretty painted buildings and where you will find several cafes. A casual visitor might think this is the main place to see in the Villecroze, but keep exploring because the main attractions are elsewhere and rather hidden...
Troglodyte caves of Villecroze
One remarkable sight in Villecroze is the troglodyte caves of Villecroze on the eastern edge of the village and behind the main centre. This is now a park where you can enjoy a picnic and a look around the gardens, with a backdrop to the gardens of a large cliff with troglodyte dwellings and a 35 metre high waterfall.
This is a most unusual park that covers 2.5 hectares and very well implemented so be sure to come for a visit (there is also a car park right next to the park).
Old village in Villecroze
Return to the main road through the centre of Villecroze and walk a short distance down the hill to reach the historic centre: you can enter this part of the village through a small arch next to the church in Place de l'Eglise.
This old town is really very unspoiled and pretty with numerous old stone houses along the narrow cobbled streets, many with traditional features such as stone staircases. You will also notice several old stone fountains: there are seven to discover in the centre of Villecroze.
Rue des Arcades is one of our favourite streets in Villecroze, with numerous arches across the street, while other streets have lots of plants or lead you to a small hidden square in the heart of the village. There are also one or two very quaint small cafes in the old centre, as well as places where you have nice views across the countryside.
Attractions nearby
If you leave the village towards the west you can see the pretty little Chapel of Saint-Victor, in roman style and with a cemetery and ancient olive trees.
The small village of Tourtour is just a few kilometres east of Villecroze and is very picturesque as well as being listed among the "most beautiful villages of France".
