Visit Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France)

Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon is a small resort and village on the west side of the Lac de Sainte-Croix in Provence. The village is an an enviable location, high on a rocky promontory overlooking the lake.

Explore Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon

One of the best views of Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon is as you approach the village along the winding route from the east, so don't drive too fast: you will want to stop and take a photo when you glance the village and lake through the trees!

The centre of the village is small but very lovely: there are numerous beautifully restored stone houses and pretty gardens to admire, very often with views across the azure blue waters of the Lac de Sainte-Croix as a backdrop.

The most important historic monument in Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon is the small church. Although it was built in the 16th century, the church was substantially renovated in the 19th century and lost its original appearance. Shame, but the terrace in front of the church is anoher lovely view across the lake...

As you walk around the village you will also be tempted to have lunch in one of the small restaurants here that have terraces overlooking the lake: a lovely setting to pass an hour or two!

There is a small road that leaves the village of Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon towards the east to reach the beach. The beach is only a few hundred metres further, is supervised in summer, and parking is available.

Attractions nearby

As well as Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon, you will want to explore elsewhere around the Lac de Sainte-Croix. The village at Bauduen to the south-east of here has a charming historic centre and a lakeside promenade, and the town of Aiguines at the other end of the lake has a traditional Provencal centre and lovely views across the lake.

Further north you can explore the beautiful village at Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, in an impressive setting below high cliffs, and to the east you can explore the Gorges du Verdon by car, on foot or by boat.
