Périgord Blanc is the central part of the Dordogne department, from Montpon-Ménestérol in the west to Sorges and Thenon in the north-east. The region broadly follows the course of the Isle river, and its subsidiary, the Auvezère.

The region takes its name from a plateau of white chalk rock in the north of the Périgord Blanc area, that is traditionally used to build the houses in most of the region. The plateau itself is in the Périgord Vert region around Riberac, to the north-west of Perigord Blanc. The countryside throughout the area is a mix of small woodlands and more open areas of fields.

Excideuil
On the furthest limit in the north-east of Perigord Blanc, Excideuil is a market town with an interesting historic centre around its church
Mussidan
Close to the Trans European motorway Mussidan is a market town with a museum of crafts and traditions to visit
Neuvic sur l'Isle
Neuvic sur l'Isle is a small town with a chateau, the Chateau de Neuvic, that can be visited in the summer.
Perigueux
The town of Perigueux is one of our favourite historic towns in the Dordogne, with an extensive and pretty historic centre and a remarkable byzantine cathedral among its highlights

Saint-Astier
Saint-Astier is a quiet town in the centre of the Perigord Blanc, with a striking Chapter House and some attractive half-timber houses in its centre. A pleasant riverside platform looks out over a weir and an arched stone bridge built in 1830.

Sorges
A village in the north-east of Perigord Blanc with a pretty church that is known for its truffles. In Sorges you can visit a small museum that explains the importance an history of truffles in the village. Garden enthusiasts can visit the Jardin de Le Bouquet, and n extensiv garden with numerous gardens featuring clipped box hedges in various shapes and patterns.
Tourtoirac
Tourtoirac is a village in the east of the region, with a 12th century abbey church, a picturesque riverside and also a cave system to visit
Villamblard
To the south-west of the Perigord Blanc region and north of Bergerac, Villamblard is a small and traditional market town, in pretty countryside and with several very small but picturesque villages nearby.
