France This Way review: Marminiac is a small village, and not a place you would travel far to visit, but if you are nearby or passing through the village it has a pretty and traditional centre with a few sights of interest
The most notable structure in Marminiac is the large square tower called the Tour des Anglais, a four storey tower built in the local yellow stone. There was a castle here from the 13th century, but the rest of the castle was destroyed during the Hundred Years War. Although partly original, the current tower is in part a 15th century reconstruction.
Another building very typical of the region is the market hall in the centre of Marminiac, supported by stone columns.
The Church of Saint-Vincent, with its entrance below a large square tower, is built in the same yellow stone as the houses in the village. The main part of the church was built in the 13th century, and the two low sides were added in the 19th century. It is a fortified church that played a defensive role in Marminiac during the Hundred Years War.
Elsewhere in the village you can see some charming houses and gardens, and peer through a gate to see a small castle (not open to the public). This is the Chateau de Bonafous, rebuilt in the 19th century, on the site of the original castle (it is named for the Bonafous family, who owned the castle from the early 15th century to the early 19th century)
There is a cafe in the centre of Marminiac where you can sit and enjoy the scenery.
