Visit Rue Montorgueil, Paris

Rue Montorgueil is a busy street in the centre of Paris, in the First and Second arrondissements. The southern end of the street is near the rear of the Church Saint-Eustache, in the Les Halles quarter, and the north is a junction with Rue Réamur.

The Sentier metro station, on line 3, is at the north end of the street, and Les Halles metro station on line 4, is close to the south end of the street.

France This Way review: the Rue Montorgueil is a long pedestrianised street with a bustling atmosphere and a lot of interesting shops and cafes, and very pleasant to explore.

There is perhaps not a lot to say about Rue Montorgueil, since it is largely the busy atmosphere and numerous small cafes and restaurants that provides the appeal of the street, perhaps rather like the appeal of the Place du Tertre in Montmartre is its atmosphere rather than a particular "sight"...

...however I will try and mention a few of the interesting highlights, although the few mentioned below is certainly not intended to be a complete list - there are perhaps hundreds of cafes, cheese shops, wine shops, cake shops etc along the road!

Perhaps the charm of Rue Montorgueil is because the road feels as if you are in a charming provincial town rather than the centre of Paris?

Suggestions of places to see along Rue Montorgueil

At the southern end there is an ice cream shop called "Amorino Gelato" where we had a very nice ice cream, which is created from thin slices of ice cream put together to look like a flower. If you like t impress people on Instagram or TikTok you could do a lot worse, and even if not you will enjoy the ice cream...
If you want an authentic French gastronomic experience, you can try frogs legs and snails at the Escargot Restaurant (number 38 Rue Montorgueil)
The restaurant Au Rocher de Cancale is a restaurant famed for its oysters, founded here in 1804
Last of our selection, but certainly not the least important, is the Patisserie and Chocolate specialist called Stohrer that was established in Rue Montorgueil in 1730.
