DON'T MISS THESE! HOLIDAYS IN FRANCE : GITES IN FRANCE : FRANCE CAR HIRE : CHEAP FLIGHTS TO FRANCE

Passage to India

Many years ago, before we were fortunate enough to have children that stop us doing such things, Mrs B and I had a fabulous holiday in India. A few weeks of backpacking and exploring around Delhi, Agra (Taj Mahal) and region, then off to the hill stations in the mountains to the north to cool down.

It was an extraordinary experience, in a land of extreme contrasts, extreme temperatures (we went in high summer) and extreme beauty. Why I am talking about it now if it all happened so long ago?

Because each February Mrs B starts on her annual campaign to get me out of the house for a couple of weeks of high adventure. Sometimes she talks of Greece and Italy, sometimes of France, but other times she reminisces about the old days - safaris in Africa, an RV around the Westen USA, and backpacking in India.

This she year she has tracked down southern India as our dream destination, specifically Munnar. Munnar was once the British capital in southern India, and is now said to be Kerala’s finest hill station. Certainly it looks very inviting.

But will we ever get there? Well, one day probably. One day soon, probably not. Younger daughter has a funny turn at the thought of a 2 hour car journey and older daughter likes big cities. Me, I like a good holiday as long as I’m home by tea-time.

Unfortunately the number of ‘must see’ places in the world is rapidly catching up with the maximum possible number of years left for me to see them all. And that’s not counting the places I want to go back and see again.

So I’d best either start soon, or wait until I’m 70, catch a shuttle into space, and peer at all of them through a big telescope. Preferably Hubble.
