Also nice bike ride from La Rochelle to Les Minimes along the bike paths. Lovely and relaxed. For restaurants, André is excellent (and could be very, very close to you) or "Le Boute en Train" on Rue des Bonnes Femmes, just behing the market and opposite the only "adult" shop in Poitou-Charantes, is my personal favourite.
