Flowering France
You can’t see it very well in the picture, but this is a meadow field of white, pink and purple flowers leading down to a lake.
Very pretty indeed and it was a pleasure to come across when i was out cycling yesterday.
Mrs B tells me they are called ‘Cosmos’ flowers and quite a few meadows and fields have suddenly appeared filled with these flowers in the region.
It’s even more surprising given that it is now October, and last night we had the first frost of the year.
But this year is a funny one for flowers, and there are still fields of sunflowers waiting to be harvested, and it is less than a fortnight since I actually saw a field of sunflowers in bloom – a good two or three months later than usual!
It seems likely the flowering meadows are due to some kind of ‘local action’ by farmers and local councils but I’m not sure who picks up the bill (if there is one) – but full marks to whoever it is!

We have seen many fields of flowers this year too and they are lovely but we too have been wondering why. The ones around us (33) are cosmos and many other flowers too. They all seem to be planted in field that were once pasture. Could this be some kind of set aside thing, as no way could they be used for pasture now , however lovely they may be.
I wondered if it was to do with set-aside, and one of the fields had a sign referring to the local hunt and farmers – but it was a very old-looking sign so I wasn’t sure if it was related to the flowers or not! I’ll ask around a bit, glad to hear they are all acoss Aquitaine not just here in 47.
edit: Mrs B had asked in the market this morning and apparently yes, it is some kind of collaboration between farmers and hunters.
Hi There !!
Nice picture. As you said it is not much clear but it is very beautiful. Do you know the name of these flowers, is there any season for these flowers?
I think they are called cosmos, and late summer / early autumn seems to be the time when they are at their best.
