The end of the world as we know it

It seems a bit trivial for me to chat about growing vegetables in France when the world has such grave problems, although Mrs B does tell me she is going to double the size of our potager next year. Good news, lots of leek soup and fried courgettes, please do stop by…

I also need to be sure I can pull my weight when we find out our bank has gone bust and our pension fund has evaporated so I’ve been doing a bit of investigation.

Looking for opportunities for someone with my own particular strengths I came acros this video full of useful advice about how to earn lots of money – I didn’t check if they are recruiting at the moment but probably worth sending my CV in just in case.

Meanwhile the BBC website mentioned that some people in the ‘almost nationalised’ banks were earning up to 800 times average salary – ie what takes me or you 16 years to earn would take them a week.

Of course the important thing is that everyone recognises the importance of spending. If everyone stops throwing their money around the recession will be longer and tougher than it need be, so make sure you go out spending this weekend, buy yourself something nice.

You might as well buy yourself a flatscreen TV and a comfy sofa because you won’t be moving house any time soon. And no skimping on your Christmas gifts either!

And when the news of falling share prices all gets too much, don’t forget about the benefits of a good holiday. You can escape for a while to a lovely French gite, forget your troubles – or drink so much local wine that you don’t care. I’ve got just the place for you…

  1. I ration myself to one francethisway blog visit per week – otherwise my continual grin would age my youthful looks – so my grandchildren tell me.

  2. You’re doing well John, my children (I don’t have grandchildren) and also Mrs B are always more than happy to tell me I’m looking old and worn out.
