On Christmas evening we launched a few Chinese lanterns into the skies of south-west France – very pretty to watch but slightly dangerous perhaps and we were slightly worried we’d burn the house down. So we need a New Year plan that is both fun and safe.
Of course, there’s nothing I like more than an early night with a good book to welcome in the New Year but since it’s the end of a decade Mrs B likes to think we’ll be dancing in the streets all night and popping champagne corks until dawn. As preparation for this she tells me we need to practice dancing French style.
Since I have no idea about dancing, in France or anywhere else, I’ve been looking around for some help and have found a couple of useful videos that should get me started. If you are planning to go dancing this New Year and hope to look cool and sophisticated they are both highly recommended.
The first is the more modern of the two and looks pretty straightforward to master:
While the second clip I have found shows how to dance to the music of the popular French group called Daft Punk. Looks slightly harder to do but quite a lot of fun…
Now just remind me again, what was that decade actually called?
I would buy a few bottles of port and that french fizzy wine and sit down with good friends and or family. See in the New Year by letting one of the number in the front door with something to eat, drink and burn. ( food, drink and fuel for the new year). Then sit down.talk and drink, put money in the kitty and the last person to go to sleep keeps it.
Not that we will be doing that of course, but we have done in the past.
Happy New Year
Sounds like you are too old for it now,or have seen the light?
Johnny, I like the ‘money in the kitty’ idea – but it wouldn’t take many bottles of port before I’d be fast asleep, and the kids would win and keep all the money.
Too old AND seen the light.
Current cold weather tipple is a small tot of dark rum either Woods or Pussers, very warming.
Bonne Année tout
