I have planted lots of that variety and am waiting for the inevitable invasion. the variety phyllostachys pubescence 'mosso' grows even bigger, I suggest you plant that and you can live inbetween the giant shoots.. hahaha Enjoy eating the shoots while living in your bamboo house. The shoots of the 'nigra ' variety are edible, look up on the internet how to prepare them.... by the way, you can top the bamboo shoots . they will never grow higher once they have been topped. enjoy!
