Hi,

I live in Strasbourg. I agree with what this article says. I had a business that did well for 3 years and then started to receive crazy demands for payment (RSI). The system also got my social security number mixed up with someone else in Calais, so I received demands based on their salary too.

Overall I think the A.E system can work well if you find a business that suits it. There is a huge black market in France and the government knows this, it turns a blind eye because it knows how much a part it plays in supporting the economy.

Can someone tell me, is it possible to start more than 1 A.E company?

What happens if this is agricultural and you grow foods to sell?

Thanks

For the Canadian wondering about working in France, l believe Canada and France have an accord about temporary residency and working. My husband's nephew, (who is French, like my husband), is currently legally living and working in Toronto. Check with the Canadian or French consulates for the particulars.

Presumably it depends on what 'temporary resident' means for you, as a Canadian - I would imagine short term visas usually exclude working...but as far as I know, if you have the right to be resident in France you will also have the right to start a business in France.
You would best start with the visa department, then the local chamber of commerce where you wil be staying, they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Hello there,

I am Canada and I'm thinking of moving to France as a temporary resident. Will I be able to apply to become an Auto-Entrepreneur and will this allow me to make a living in France. Thank you.

There is also a great website for anyone starting a business in France (and not just the auto entreprise) in English.

Anyway, I have found it very helpful...

That's very interesting Marc, especially the part about having companies in both England and France. I have heard of plenty of people who work in France using English companies and hope not to be found out, but is there a way of having companies in both countries without breaking the rules?
Cheers!

Become an auto-entrepreneur could represent a good way to work in France . But you have look at a very important thing. Your social taxes ( i don't talk about your inland revenues) will be calculated on your TURNOVER, and not on your benefit. I'm French and i have a company in UK and another one in France and i could not encourage even my ennemy to become an auto-entrepreneur... there are so other safety ways to be an entrepreneur in Fance...

I hope it help
