Are you an expat having troubles getting settled?
Quite a few expats struggle a bit during the first few months, years, decades….the language, the culture, lack of money, missing family and friends can all make the process of settling in a new country a bit difficult.
Help is at hand! I have received a request from a group making a television series for Channel 4 in the UK. In their own words:
we are looking for families who have moved abroad to set up a new life and business but are experiencing difficulties. Maybe it’s cash flow problems, language barriers or simply cultural differences that are making things difficult. The idea of our program is to help families get back on track – we want to help them save their dream as opposed to focusing solely on their difficulties.
We are looking for British families who might welcome some advice to help rescue their business – we have an expert who can help. Our expert has had similar previous experiences in the past.
- Do you or do you know anyone whose dream of running a business overseas has gone pear-shaped?
- Maybe it’s cash flow problems, language barriers or simply cultural differences that are making things difficult.
- Are you looking for some help and advice to save your business?

Previously I’ve always been a bit, shall we say, unreceptive, to television programmes that want to film people and their troubles. But on this occasion I think it should actually be of benefit to someone, so go ahead and contact them if you are in this position. Let us know how it goes.
I was tempted to apply myself and then spend the entire programme wearing an oversized ‘francethisway.com’ T-shirt – drumming up publicity and so on – but Mrs B tells me that I don’t have any difficulties, and even if I do I can just keep them to myself because no one else is interested. Oh well, perhaps next time.
