A page of publicity
As part of my too-ing and fro-ing with france this way, I deal with quite a few travel companies. Often, they are wanting to market a travel product of some sort on the site.
The suggestions aren’t always suitable, and trying to sell unrelated products - website hosting, for example - on a travel site, is unlikely to be a big success. Which is a shame because its very lucrative. Whereas selling a book about the pleasures of a holiday in Brittany only earns me about 10 cents.
Sticking flashy banners all over the place doesn’t really work very well, makes very few sales anyway, and makes the site look too busy. So I don’t usually bother.
But for all that I do sometimes get details of offers, special deals and last-minute bargains that look genuinely interesting and good value.
The ‘recommended’ way to market these offers is to write a long build up, about, say, the pleasures of a weekend in Paris, and then, after getting the audience all excited, mentioning that they could be wandering down the Champs Elysees next weekend for less than the price of lunch at Burger King. And then adding a link to the travel site concerned.
Now I don’t want to write blog entries about each offer I hear about, because it would not be interesting for either of us, and I am very lazy.
So instead I’ve added a page to this blog called ‘Bargains and Special Offers’ (up there on the right, see it?) where I will post all the bargains and promotions I like the look of. And you can ignore it totally or check it every few days, according to your whims and how much you like a bargain.
Publicity over. Apologies for the interruption in service.
