Renovate property in France
How to Renovate an Old Building: Factsheets
From here you can access the Factsheets that we have prepared about renovation work in France. A project to renovate a property can be a lot of fun if you know what you are doing and approach the task with confidence.
The role of the factsheets is to introduce some of the issues and practical considerations involved, rather than offer complete and definitive advice on every aspect of how to build a house. Hence in 'roofs' for example I don't describe how to build a roof - rather beyond the scope of a renovation factsheet - but do mention the ways in which roofs are constructed. On the other hand in 'stonework' I describe in detail how to point a stone wall - because this is within the scope of a competent but untrained individual. If you would like me to consider any item in greater detail please let me know and I will see what I can do.
Even if you are having someone else do all the work for you I would still recommend that you broadly familiarise yourself with the content of those factsheets that apply to you, if you plan to renovate an old building, so that you can understand and follow the work more easily.
We are constantly adding new factsheets and updating existing factsheets. Add the site to 'favourites' or bookmarks and come back soon, and feel free to suggest ideas for other factsheets. Or even to contribute a factsheet of your own..
If you are doing-up a barn or farmhouse, a bergerie or a pigeonnier in France let us know. Whatever the size or scale of the project we'd love to follow your story on the site as you renovate, even if it is quite a minor project.
