Renovation of a barn, house or property in France
The process of renovating an old property is both interesting and rewarding. Seeing a derelict house becoming your dream home or a barn becoming a barn conversion is an incredible experience. But the experience can also have its stressful moments, and the goal of this site is to enable you to keep the pleasure and satisfaction, while limiting the problems.
The site falls into three main parts:
1) Information about general aspects of any renovation project, such as having a survey done, finding a property, finances etc. These items are listed on the menu on this page.
2) The 'renovation factsheets' section - this contains a great deal of information about the more specific areas of work involved, such as repairing a wall, laying a floor etc. If there is an additional subject that you would like to see covered in this section please let us know.
3) 'Real life projects' then looks at a couple of actual renovation projects, to see what renovating a property is like in the real world.
Many of the pages in this site also have a 'was this page useful' form. Please do send these in - it only takes five seconds and is completely anonymous, but gives us useful feedback.

NEW: I have added a French - English translation of some common building words HERE
NEW: There is a lot of information on this site, not all directly accessed from the main menus, so I have added a sitemap that includes a summary of all the files, and what they contain, to help you make the most of the site HERE
Buying a barn or house for renovation is an exciting thing to do. Don't let this site deter you from going ahead with your own project, that is not at all the intention. The intention is simply to make the renovation process more pleasant and less stressful.
