What to expect from a boating holiday

Usually you will collect your boat at your chosen starting point around 4-6pm on your selected date (usually a Saturday).

You will remain on quiet rivers and canals, and navigation is simple. Maps are provided. There are many places to stop along the way, enabling you to explore. Mooring points are usually free except in larger towns. Bicycles are a good way to extend your exploring.

You may pass through several locks en-route. Although often operated for you by lock-keepers you will sometimes need to operate these yourself.

Typically you will cover 20-25 miles per day, although if there are several locks involved this can slow your progress.

Do you need previous experience?

No! You will receive full instruction. Note also that in France, a driving permit is not necessary to operate a river cruiser.
