Laruns
Laruns is 35 km from Pau, in the Pyrénées Atlantiques region, in inland Aquitaine (close to the border with the Midi-Pyrénées region).
The village itself contains some good examples of the typical local architecture, and some houses with attractively designed lintels above the doors, but no great sites to detain you for long.
Laruns is best known due to its position in the heart of the Ossau valley. Steep wooded hills rise up around the village, which provides hikers with good access to the Pic du Midi to the south (Gabas, to the south of Laruns, is another possibility).
Note: on the 15th August each year there is a traditional dance, in costume, held in the village.
