The Château de la Diablesse in Marcilly-on-Maulne is open for tours from July 16 to August 25, a chance to discover this historic home of the sixteenth and seventeenth century situated between Tours and Angers.
It was Charles Fouquet, treasurer of France at Tours, who bought the old 14th century fortress belonging to the famous, "gifted lady of singular beauty and yet a wit that the king loved" as Estoile wrote.
Originally from a famous family and successful in his career Charles Fouquet built the castle we see today at the turn of the sixteenth and seventeenth century.
This palace replaced the old defensive castle with a castle open to guests at parties and hunts - and perpetuates this tradition today, continuing to offer a warm welcome to visitors.
