Location: Hiesse is situated in the Charente department (Poitou-Charentes region) in the west of France at 57 km from Angouleme, the department capital. (General information: Hiesse is 338 km from Paris and 552 km from the port at Calais).

HISTORY WW2: Just after the demarkation of France a group of RAF Blenhiem bombers departed Tangmere Aerodrome in England. On the 18 June 1940 they became lost and scattered in stormy weather. One particular aircraft over flew Alloue and was damaged by German Army ground fire. In an effort to regain control it over flew Pressac heading towards Hiesse. With the loss of power the aircraft went into a shallow dive and crashed in the woods north of the village killing all 3 crew members. They're bodies were buried in the cemetary in the village.
During the occupation of WW2 the countryside north of commune was used as a parachute drop zone for the delivery of equipment for the Resistance fighters of this area. In 1944 there was heavy fighting between the Resistance and the German forces in the area during the SS reprisals.
