Grotte des Combarelles, Gisement de la Ferrassie, Les Eyzies
Grotte des Combarelles, Gisement de la Ferrassie is a National Monument of France.
Description
In the Valley of la Vézère, with its rock faces unearthed by innumerous excarvations, the village of Eyzies-de-Tayac merits the title of «the capital of Prehistory». No less than 15 sites are enlisted as World Heriatge Sites of Humanity by the Unesco. Among these count Font-de-Gaume and its polychrome paintings of the magdalenien period. Several repositories, like Laugerie-Haute or the shelter of Cap-Blanc, date from prehistoric times leading back some 15 million years. For conservation reasons, visits take place in small groups.
