Rambouillet castle and dairy, Rambouillet
Rambouillet castle and dairy is a National Monument of France.
Description
A furnished château in which the “appartements d’Assemblée” are decorated with superb rocaille panelling. Over the course of time the 14th Century fortified castle has been home to a number of illustrious personnages who gradually transformed it into a delightful residence acquired by Louis XIV. The royal estate is now a presidential residence, open to the public and used at intervals to receive heads of state invited to France. It contains some magnificent examples of interior decoration, such as the marble chambers, the rococo decorations in the “Marie-Antoinette” apartments or those used by Napoleon in neo-Pompeian style. It is surrounded by a formal garden, canals and five islands. You can round off your visit by calling in on the Queen's Dairy and the Shell Cottage.
