House of Ernest Renan, Treguier
House of Ernest Renan is a National Monument of France.
Description
The life of the great writer in the house where he was born. Earnest Renan was born in this timer-framed 17th century house. Once home to a shipowner, it was donated it to the state in 1946 by the writer’s granddaughters. On the ground floor, his mother ran a grocery store. Renan’s office, on the first floor has been reconstructed with authentic furniture to resemble that which he had at le Collège de France whose administrator he was. High under the roof, in the lookout of the third floor, the scholar’s room, small and stark, once home to the famous author of “Vie de Jésus”, will evoke contemplation and reflection. Some of the Renan’s objects, documents and memories are carefully preserved in his abode. Animations and exhibitions take place throughout the year.
