Talmont
Talmont ('most beautiful villages of France') is 15 km south-east of Royan, in Poitou Charentes
Tourist Information and places to visit
Talmont is a very small village, with low attractive whitewashed houses, reminiscent of small villages in Greece.
The village is on a promontory in the Gironde Estuary. At the head of the promontory is a lovely 11th century church, in the built in the Roman style. The church of St Radegonde is surrounded by a small cemetery.
The views along the coast from the cemetery are spectacular, of high white cliffs in both directions.
One curious feature of Talmont is its hollyhocks. From the end of spring to well into the summer, self-seeded hollyhocks seem to leap from every crack and space possible, a very unusual sight for which Talmont is renowned.
There are an assortment of restaurants and arty-crafty shops in Talmont.
Nearby
Much of the interest nearby follows the coastline, with lovely beaches and small villages and towns to explore.
