Segur-le-Chateau
Segur-le-Chateau ('most beautiful villages of France') is to the south-west of the Limousin region in the Correze department.
Tourist Information and places to visit
Beautifully placed on the Auvézère River, Ségur-le-Chateau is overlooked by the ruins of the castle - dating from the 12th century.
A cluster of unspoiled houses runs along the river underneath the rock behind, and it is a very quiet and charming place - ambling through the tranquil setting and the narrow streets of the village it's hard to guess that in the Middle-Ages this was an important local centre for the region.
The houses, extremely well preserved, are an attractive mix of manorial houses and 'humble' dwellings, some in colombage others in stone.
Segur-le-Chateau is highly recommended if you are exploring the Limousin region.
