Mirmande
Mirmande ('most beautiful villages of France') is 15 km north east of Montelimar, in the Rhone Alps.
Tourist Information and places to visit
Mirmande is a perfect little ramparted medieval village, set among trees, orchards and open meadows. Its heyday ran from the 12th century to the 17th century. It sits on a hill with lovely views and is itself overlooked by the pretty Church of Saint Foy. As you wander among the streets there are lots of interesting architectural details to admire in the stonework, and the doors and windows etc.
The village also seems to love its gardens, with numerous attractive little gardens to be glimpsed as you make your way up the cobbled streets towards the church. From the church there are fine views over the Massif central and the Rhone Valley.
Nowadays the town attracts many artists and potteries, attracted by the location and the natural light.
Mirmande, in addition to being a 'most beautiful village of France' has also won awards for its 'most beautiful roofs in France' and is a member of the 'botanic Villages of the Drone'.
Other most beautiful villages in Rhone Alps include Balazuc, Bonneval, Yvoire and Perouges.
